Still trying to settle in to how substack works — and keep using it to connect with people on a human level, rather than a ‘how to grow your subscriber count exponentially’ level! How have you found your way into taking up space here?

That's an authentic way to use this space. It's very easy to get wrapped up in numbers.

I moved my newsletter here first. The other service was changing and want to charge me, and SS meets my needs. I've never been one for multiple automated welcome sequences which is the only difference with regards to he email list.

I then realised the discoverablity here is brilliant so changed my website/blog into more of an archive and started writing here once a week instead of once a month, which was my original newsletter schedule.

Notes is very social mediaeasque and I've had to delete the app as I kept getting distracted by so many great things to read an folk to chat with. Not ideal when you have a deadline!

Hello again Susan. I love a good connection which is probably why I'm drawn to astrology. There's plenty of threading there. As for social media, funnily enough I left around 2 years ago when it was t cool to leave and have recently returned when everyone else seems to be jumping ship. But, like you, my intention has changed with the return. It is a noticeboard but also a space where I can be messy and work through ideas in real time before I sit down and refine them. Plus, it is a place for watching whale videos and funny memes. ❤️

Hey 👋 oh I'm totally with you. SM is a blessing and a curse! For me it's also about being aware of my usage. Leaning towards tool over entertainment. But yes to the relatable memes 😅 it's a balancing act!

A tool indeed. I find for me it's about taking a moment to check in and enquire about the intention behind enterin the world of social media. What am I craving? What am I looking for? Can that be provided through something else? Like last night, in the middle of pausing an episode of The Last Kingdom, my initial reaction was to grab my phone but as I did I realised I could just have a quiet moment with myself whilst my partner took a bathroom break. As with anything, awareness seems to be the key. And even then, we gotta stumble mutliple times before we truly learn the lesson. But it's not about shaming, rather having compassion when those stumbles do happen.

Hello, from a fellow OG blogger. 👋🏻 Lovely to see you here. I feel the same about social media. I've removed so many apps from my phone I may as well go back to a vintage Nokia! I love the title of your new Substack - as you know, I'm a big Tove fan. 💚 Happy second birthday to Earthly Bodies! ✨
