I struggle with longer novels lately. My mind is always shifting and I find I get a lot more from reading fragments of non-fiction (mainly philosophy & esoteric stuff these days), short stories, and an excellent book on film called The Big Screen by David Thomson (highly recommended). Dune left me cold, tbh. Wolf Hall I keep thinking I should read. Also, Don Quixote, but it's enormous! Hats off to you for tackling weighty novels.

I did plough through Dune tbh. I preferred the film version! I still think you'd enjoy House of Leaves. Even though it's chunky it's digestible.

I recently bought House of Leaves and am looking forward to it. My favorite book this year was long, Foucault’s Pendulum by Umberto Eco. I'm currently reading The Age of Innocence and then it will be Mrs. Dalloway.

You're getting through some classic book there! Do come back and tell me what you think of HoL. I'm posting some of my deeper thoughts about it next week.

I'm currently reading 'Waking The Witch' by Pam Grossman, which is all about the history of witches. Before that I read the 'Witch's Garden' by Sandra Lawrence and 'The Plant Rescuer' by Sarah Gerrad-Jones, which is about looking after houseplants. I read a lot of non-fiction but I do also read some fiction, it just has to grab me early on.

I think the biggest book I've ever read was some books in The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King and I really loved that series! So, if the books good, I will go big but I'd say I usually stick around the 300 pages area.

Yep 300 pages is usually an ideal length for me. It's funny because I love King but really only his shorter stuff. I find the longer stories of his too much, but he's incredible at developing characters that can see out these longer works.

I'm a fan of Pam too, not read any of her books but have done a couple of her workshops.
