IRL author stuff
Last year was a lot but in amongst it all there were some highlights. One of which was The National Creative Writing Industry Day 2025 in Manchester in mid-November.
It was here that I chatted to an agent about my next project, it was here I met writers from all over the country, and it was here that I realised I needed to start my own in-person writing group.
This is something I'd been mulling over for a while, but me knowing my brain better than I ever have before (ADHD along with a chronic health condition) knew that it would take a lot from me. A lot that I wasn't sure I had the capacity to give.
Another highlight from 2025 is that I began to reach out to local writers. I suppose I was testing the waters for what future me wanted to create.
One of those writers, is a local author, and readers, when we met In-Real-Life it was as if we'd known each other for years. Interests, upbringing, brains, creativity, Labyrinth, I could go on.
Anyway, Samantha B. Cummings is a YA fantasy author with a love of dark academia. She has a brilliant podcast aimed at indie authors and you should totally go check out her Instagram.
So, in short we've decided to team up and co-host an in-person writing group in Macclesfield.
There's been quite a bit of interest already, enough for me to be slightly concerned the venue may not be big enough, but I'm sure it'll all work out. There are a couple of alternatives so let's just see what happens.
We are looking at once a month to begin with so we can get an idea of interest, and our own capacity.
It will be on a Tuesday evening at a central Macclesfield location. We have a venue but need to get an idea of numbers to make sure we can fit.
This will be a co-writing session, with time allocated for chat. At this stage it's very much about meeting other local authors and getting words down, not about workshops or learning.
