Hey you, lovely reader,
Taking August away from these letters means I feeling like I’m on a catch-up sprint. I have so much I want to talk about with you and not enough time to do it. Some things are happening now (new website and book edits), some things are in the future, and I am trying not to to get distracted by the new, shiny ideas and plans that seem to be surrounding me.
Vague and a tad nebulous. Yes, I’m being both. But there are also Sure Things incoming too. For example MY NEW BOOK COVER!
Until then, which is soon, I’ll share the below. All of which I think are brilliant and well worth your time and curiosty.
Interesting Things
If you are in North West England, or you are into Flash Fiction, you’ll have come across Gaynor Jones’ stories. She is one of the most generous writers I’ve ever met and practically a sister from another mister, as the saying goes. We have many shared likes; Jaws, creepy women in fiction, neurodivergent children, Anyway, she’s shared a How To on creating Flash Fiction. Her method works!
It was my birthday in early September and the run up to it was lovely because I kept getting sent things in the post. One of these thing was a new tarot deck I’d won on Instagram. I’ve fallen for it pretty hard. I love the box and feel of the cards in my hand. See the photo below, its called Tarot of the Dance of Souls.
The author, Kathy Hopewell, has finally got her book out there, Swimming With Tigers. She sent me a signed copy which felt like another birthday treat. I’m reading it now and its fascinating and so well executed. Cathy manages to tell the stories of the female surrealists through fictional characters, but still manages to include real pieces of art and how they came into being. You can find Kathy at
here on Substack.I bought a bundle of books from author Dr David Hartley, who hosted a writing the uncanny course I attended last year. “Strange Stories about Strange Things for Strange People”. They came with a handwritten note and a copy of one of his father’s books too.
I also treated myself to new poetry collection called, Mycelium by Leah Atherton. With a title like that, how could I resist! Published by Fawn Press. “This collection forms an intricate lace bejewelled with feminine rage, delicate nostalgia, and yearning.”
Two Kickstarters that have/will have my support;
Celestial Bodies Oracle Deck. There are a few days to go on this one. I adore
and her work, especially her resourses on Neurodivergence.Joanna Penn is a huge inspiration for me. She is running a campaign for her new Folk Horror novel Blood Vintage.
Happy belated birthday!!! ❤️🔥💥
Dear Susan, thank you, Ed
