Summer update ๐๐ชพ
You don't have anything, if you don't have your health
Friends and Readers,
I hope this missive finds you safe. It's time for a behind the scenes life update which I intend to keep short, hence the bullet points.
I've been unwell. What I should say, partly to myself because I don't like to admit it, is that I am chronically unwell. Over the past week or so I've had a huge flare and an A+E visit. This has led to lots of life admin and chasing doctors and appointments while trying to manage pain. This has meant cancelling plans with friends and plans for summer.
The life/hospital admin doesn't end with me either. My two daughters are both under the care of two hospitals different to my hospital, so we have a hospital each. We've had a flurry of information and appointments for both of theirs too. Keeping up with all this is a job in itself.
Apologies if this all sounds like first world problems and privileged BS. I know it does, but I also know that readers are waiting for me. Although I don't owe anyone an explanation, I do think sharing the reality of our lives can help others.
My next book, The Dark Beneath Us, is close to completion. I just need some time (pain free please) to make final edits. It's had its read through and consensus is it's good to go, but I must make a couple of adjustments in order to be happy enough to let it loose on the world.
It looks like I should take my time though, because there's so much in flux right now in terms of what Trump is doing with imports into the U.S. As many of my readers are in America I've got to pay attention to any new laws or taxes, even on small ticket items which seem likely to effect me when I run my Kickstarter.
So, to conclude, providing I'm well enough to complete the work on my book, and I can figure out how new import rules effect me, the Kickstarter will run in September.
Stay tuned!
๐๐ If you want some short stories to read on the move, my ebook of Dark Is The Water is currently discounted at my store.
โ ๏ธ๐ซ There's an interview with me from author, Hayley Dunlop . You can credit her with encouraging the creation of Trigger/Content Warnings on my site books and their themes. Side note- I never used to believe in trigger warnings for horror, because, duh, it's horror, but I changed my mind. Interview link
๐โ๐ซ๐ Don't forget to join the waiting list for my next book, The Dark Beneath Us.

It's not privileged to be chronically ill, and I'm sorry that you and your family are undergoing so much stress. Thanks for being open, talking about it helps everyone to have less shame about the struggles of having a disability (whatever that disability/chronic illness might be).
Take it so gently, Susan. This sounds like a really difficult season for you all. Thinking of you x
