As part of the celebration of my books birthdays, I thought I’d share an extract of something I created (they call it a Treatment in the TV biz) for pitching Earthly Bodies to studios.
Logline
On a mission to leave a dying Earth, nature has evolved and is tagging along for the ride.
Hook
Earthly Bodies is a dystopian eco-horror story. In 2058, widow Rebecca is invited to leave Earth and start over. Whilst onboard the spaceship she discovers an infestation; nature is taking over.
Locations
SAXA VORD - A location on the Isle of Unst in the Shetlands, Scotland. A real-life rocket launch centre and former RAF base.
BRITAIN - Decaying dystopia, crumbling buildings, unmaintained roads, abandoned vehicles, the gap between rich and poor is vast, picture 2000AD comics. We are briefly in London with Oscar and briefly in Cornwall with Rebecca. Her former job was at the Eden Project, possible flashbacks to here.
THE SHIP - A vast ship housing sections like pod sleep areas, capsule hotel-type living areas, a greenhouse space, and hangers to store building and farming equipment. Think Nostromo or Prometheus from the Alien franchise.
Characters
From L-R
REBECCA played by Anna Popplewell
ISSY - played by Shelia Atim
ANNABEL - Joely Richardson
GIUSEPPE ARCIMBOLDO -Riccardo Scamarcio
FRANKIE - Robert Carlyle
GANT - Daniel Kaluuya
THE MAGIE - Robotic humanoids (Brancusi bust)
OSCAR - Lukas Haas

If you’ve read Earthly Bodies, I’d love to hear who you’d like to see cast in these parts.

I love a good treatment. My MFA is in TV writing and it helps erect the scaffolding the story hangs on. This is cool, Susan!
This is an inspiring idea. Fabulous!
